  • I'll not RL, giving you a chance to rework the video. It didn't connect with me. I didn't feel the emotional connection. You've got to find a way to do that. If all you're doing is giving some info, then make it shorter. Fewer facts and more personal story.

  • I like the V.O. made me want to do things...and he vid was great too. I found it a mostly interesting because I don't think I've heard of the island, and as a daughter of island parents, I could here they speak a type of creole/french. I'm going to do my own research on them. GL.

  • I do think it is well enough made for Current TV. Nice to see some archive footage, too. Yes, it is quite factual, but in my opinion that is not a problem, I hope various different styles are allowed to air on current tv.
Just wondering if it builds on the research by John Pilger in any waym, that would be nice and polite to refer to.
Good work and thanks for doing this very informative pod. Hasn't there been an official outcome in favour of the islanders yet? I vaguely remember hearing that there was a high court decision on this case a while ago...?

  • I'm curious about what was left out.

Isn't Diego Garcia where there is a satellite tracking station? Why did the islands have to be depopulated at all?

I checked the BBC and the most recent news is dated March 7 of this year, essentially reporting continued frustration at the lack of progress on the islanders' desire to return to their home. Here's another question. Tragically, even if the islanders win the right to return to their ancestral home, will they be able to pick up where they left off and live independently? After all, a generation has been lost.

On a filmmaking level, I'd encourage the filmmakers to broaden the scope of the film. What were their lives like before they were uprooted? What was the displacement like? Besides their return, what are they asking for? Since there apparently was a legal victory in 2006, why has the government's appeal been delayed? What is the underlying conflict? It's an interesting question, implying someone has something to hide.

    The archive footage was delightful.

    Good luck.

  • I remember hearing about this story a couple of years ago. I want to say a great teacher of mine brought it up in high school discussing the U.S. military imposition, the imperialist forces that took on the Phillipines, Hawaii, Haiti, and so many others. This is a great story! Keep talking about this. Green light here and Id like to post it elsewhere to get more attention for the issue. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Also, please check out my first pod, We Create if you get the chance.!

  • Could use a bit more about what is going with the U.S. at Diego Garcia, seeing as it is a significant military base. It is not as shocking as it could be despite being a shocking event.

    Good stuff though.
  • GREENLIGHT!!!! I watched a documentary last year on LINKTV about these people. It was crushingly sad. Now, I check in with google earth to fly over the island and count the B-52 parked in the ready...7 last time I looked. This is a deeply sad situation and I am not sure many people watched the documentary I watched last year. I hope this gets on Current TV!

  • Great piece....what happend????
  • Well done.
    Please broadcast widely.
I did substantial research on the Chagossian struggle for freedom / self-determination.
Willing to help on future productions.

  • I liked this film because it shows that the British Government is just as CORRUPT and un-interested in the plight of ordinary people as the very worst of those governments that it regularly criticises.

  • This topic is compelling. I appreciate the frankness the story and problem is simply put and blame is not witheld in the describing the role of the British Gov't and the Queen. Still, would be an interesting contrast to see more exposure on the Queen and their shenanigans and complacency.
    Well done! Bravo!
  • while not every question is answered in this pod... it sparks loads of questions and interest in the topic, which is ultimately the goal. I do agree with the comment about knowing a little more of what it was like living on the island before. and even if they are nervous about returning after years away? will they be able to live the same lifestyle now, after years of living in cities and towns in England?
the archive footage is fantastic and the whole thing is very well shot and edited.
  • GL. Good job. Please check out my AD for L'Oreal it's called Don't Stop the Party. Tell me what you think.
