The U.N. announced on Wednesday rising land degradation reduces crop yields and may threaten food security of about a quarter of the world' population.

"An estimated 1.5 billion people, or a quarter of the world's population, depend directly on land that is being degraded," FAO said in a statement presenting a study based on data taken over a 20-year period.

  • That's a lot of desperate people. I don't think any amount of 'Homeland Security' could keep our fat asses safe. We should do something to ease the suffering before it gets too bad.

  • i mean, when you hear about population control plans. they echo as the most outrageous inhumane claims you will ever hear. but then to see and hear from independent sources, things like this. yes, is a wake up call. and i dont like to assume that people are "asleep". if so let them sleep. but no, this is shocking.

  • This is a fact: "Depleting the soil of vegetation and trees leaves it vulnerable to erosions on heavy rain storms."

  • usa provides an enormous amount of food for the world population. The way things are going we're gonna have to drastically cut back on our exports & keep it for ourselves.
BTW anyone notice I never capitalize usa? Unlike Canada or Mexico or the UK?
