The Drill of It All

This is from the Sierra Club's latest newsletter!

Did you know that oil companies are already sitting on 68 million acres of leases that they aren't even drilling? Which kind of makes you wonder: Why are Big Oil and its allies suddenly desperate to get their hands on the last few places that are still protected -- our natural treasures, wildlife refuges, and pristine coastlines? They wouldn't use the concerns caused by high gas prices as an excuse to grab it ALL, would they?

All the more reason to stop subsidies for big oil and invest in alternative fuel.

Of course they want it all. They are motivated by greed; and greed is a bottomless pit that can never be filled. Its like the locusts that eat and eat until the entire field is bare, then they move on to the next, and to the next, until there is nothing left and every one of the swarm is dead.

People need to make some changes, if 5000 people own everything in the world, we ordinary people are in big trouble. How many Billion of us?

Well, technically they don't own all that land, they're just renting it.

I'm thinking they're getting desperate. Big Oil is looking into the future and seeing many of their easy-access wells tapped out, and they're combing over places they passed up years ago in hopes of finding something they missed.

    We all rent.
Think of this planet as one, soon to be very pissed off, landlord.

They have HAARP, making them able to see oil reserves all over the world and are seizing it all becuase like Jubal said, they will never stop until all is gone. Look at Louisiana, lots of fucking oil, and with HAARP they can cause Natural Disasters (Hurricane Katrina) and why did they suck ass at saving the city or never try to restore such a historical culture rich part of America, hmm maybe becuase they are greedy and want some more fucking oil. Wake Up People, there is a lot more going on in this world than your are allowed to know, but i see what is really going on, i believe in and seek truth, so yeah its kinda easy to notice it if you just open your eyes to acknowledge it.

I don't think its exaggerated to say that oil is the worst thing that ever happened to mankind...

Maybe they're planning ahead for when oil actually tanks (no pun intended) and will look to corner the markets on wind & solar farms.

Let the free market work. There are plenty of regulations to check what Oil companies are doing unless politicians sell themselves to lobbyists ?

May be the leased land is not where the oil is ?

Otherwise why would they want to drill someplace else ?

This all started a long time ago as a well orchestrated plan. Take a look at this article in the LA Times from 2001. Follow the steps to gutting the endangered species act. Why? So they can have "leeway to discard 'unwarranted denials and stays” of federal oil and gas leases nationwide, and allows Bush appointees to decide if the reasons for previous drilling bans “are still persuasive'."
Chalk up another one for big oil and Bush as he thumbs his nose at us, again.

I have to assume that a large percentage of the 68 million acres available to them wouldn't yield enough oil to cover the cost of drilling. No matter, this problem will haunt us until America gets its head out of its proverbial ass and seeks alternate energy sources.

"They wouldn't use the concerns caused by high gas prices as an excuse to grab it ALL, would they?"

    YES, YES THEY WOULD.

The people running these companies don't care about their consumers, the people using their products. They don't care about how we feel, what we want, waht we need. They're just lining their own pockets.

Oil is going to be the cause of destruction for our planet! Wars are being fought and going to continue because of oil. Men and Women who make it to certain levels of power will be influenced by money and ideologies! So the best we can do is become politicians and world leaders and try to hold on to our beliefs from the beginning to the end and try to prolong the inevitable! But like all other politicians and leaders we will not be the same as we was when we went in. So lets enjoy the fruits of this planet until they are depleted and let our future generations pay for it.

I think its pretty interesting this story is actually being voted down by some people...

To all of you who are being paid to monitor current and vote down the stories that show the truth, it's not going to work, and its time you took a look in the mirror. Its never too late to do the right thing.

I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who is in the armed forces. He is completely convinced the 911 truth movement is filled with insane people, and that its not even a movement. I then read him some of the testimony from Lt Colonels, about 4 of them, who explicitly state they believe Sept 11th was an inside job.

His response was that Lt Colonels aren't that high up in the military and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Very few people have ever come in contact with anyone they believe would be capable of even considering planning Sept 11th, Organizing the Genocide in Rwanda, Planning the chaos that is the Iraq war, and so on. That is the reason it is so hard for some to begin to entertain the idea that all of this is being caused by a group of individuals. Very evil individuals. Whether they believe themselves to be evil is no longer the point, for the world will end as we know it before a mirror is ever allowed to be held up to their faces.

[He] was an evil man—evil in a way that only those who believe in the physical reality of the Devil can understand it."

We need to invest in alternative energy and rid our dependence from oil all together. This should be one of our main focus.

I think everyone who is against oil should stop using it now.

    Oh wait....you can't.

    J_Jammer
  •

Investing in alternative energy is simply not a focus because of the oil lobbyists impact on policy...

Their solution is synonymous with McCain's: Invest millions in offshore drilling (when it won't even have an impact for 20-30 years...and it will barely even alleviate the high cost!)

    This must change!

Hypothetically, if the Earth and life itself were just some great experiment by "God", it's really embarrassing that we are allowing greed to cause our failure as a species.

Way to go guys! Don't try to fix the problem before it's too late, try to remove every last backup resource we have rather than make the push towards a sustainable solution. One day, the world as a whole may have to eliminate certain industries all at once just to save the planet. Be forewarned. Life and the ecosystems were a delicate and complicated balance that took millions of years to evolve and perfect. It seems amazing that just a few centuries of human innovation and greed can so carelessly threaten life itself.

Just one question, when the oil runs out, THEN what are you going to do? Oh, you don't care? You're going to be dead eh? Brilliant plan. Absolutely brilliant. Hopefully people do get reincarnated to come back and experience the damage they caused. I doubt it, but the only way to stop these greedy businessmen from destroying what's left of the earth in the quest for profit may be to instill the real fear of God in them.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that, so it looks like I'll be forced to continue reading depressing stories about poor planning and irresponsibility like this for the time being.

Boo! How can we restructure our entire society and infrastructure away from a dependence oil period?
