Mural by Rahmann Statik Barnes
Interview with Rahmaan Statik
47th St and lake Park, Hyde Park, Chicago Mural Project
Doctors save lives, police fight crime, and the Artist dictates what we know as Image, Icon, and Form. I live a life-style of observation and creation. I believe that being well informed on the subject of your work and having an organized strategy produces a more intriguing work of art. I believe man has the right to choose his reality. In my reality I have chosen my own destiny; time and fate have confirmed that producing art is my positive contribution to society.
The work I produce both symbolizes and creates optimism for life in our industrialized society. It also challenges the over-saturation of mindless sexual and violent images in pop visual culture. I put forth a passionate effort to produce art that has a spiritual, political and urban aesthetic. Interview with Rahmaan Statik 47th St and lake Park, Hyde Park, Chicago Mural Project ... more -

A Letter Home
My mother always told me, "No matter where you go in life, or how far, you will always come home."
I shot this video when I returned to the Wind River Indian Reservation in the fall of 2005. I am fascinated with how we are always and forever connected to our parents. But we tend to forget that our parents had full and complete lives as indiviuals befoe becoming our parents. My father served in the Korean War, he worked on the tribal ranch as a youth; a cowboy and a soldier.
I moved to Chicago in 1999 and often return to the rez. On this trip my mind kept wondering to a letter we found in our mother's belongings; a letter that my father wrote while he served in the US Army when he had left the reservation, and a reminder that, as my mother said, he returned home.

With the exception of the former President's last year in power, this youth has a vibrant take on Pervaiz Musharraf, the success he had in finally providing Pakistan with much-needed stability and where he thinks we're heading from here. It's a bit long, but it is the voice we're not hearing enough of.
